With regret but lots of gratitude to God, we announce the passing away of the Executive Secretary of the Foundation for Rural Urban Integration (FRUIT) (our parent body), Mr. Charles Ayede. He passed away on the 13th of May, 2011 and has since been buried.

Mr. Charles Ayede

Mr. Ayede was our father, teacher, friend and worthy mentor. We would miss him but know that he lives on in the legacies and principles that he engraved into so many people. His other legacies like the Foundation for Rural Urban Integration and its offshoot, the Su’eddie Agema Foundation would always keep in his spirit and exceed his every expectation.

We commiserate with his family and hope that all his enduring legacies would be upheld. Amen.

SU’EDDIE AGEMA ‘MFANYIMA ORPHANAGE PROJECT’ (28th-31st July, 2010)

Day 1: 28th July, 2010 – BASIC COMPUTER APPRECIATION

We started the first day’s programme by 3:00pm, an hour behind schedule. We had to wait for some of the elder children who had gone to school to come back and get prepared.

We had a team of six facilitators to bring the world of computers to the children. Olubunmi Olateju, who had been teaching the children Computer Studies prior to the workshop, started the lecture with a lecture on Computer Basics. The need for a good and solid knowledge of computers was emphasised. It came across as a revision class to them. They enjoyed his lecture thoroughly and were engrossed in writing his every single word. Olubunmi was supported by Ugbor Ogochukwu and Su’eddie Agema. After that session, all the facilitators came together to further the discussions on an open platform. The children were introduced to the Internet – How to surf the net; Forex; Social Networks; sourcing information on the net and several more things.

After this, there was an interactive session that got the facilitators answering questions from “How does a computer make food enter our tummies?” to “Why does the Search Bar on the start button not answer all our general questions” and other questions that led to further lessons on the ‘History of Computers: Basic origin to its current format’ ‘How to care for Computers’ ‘Viruses and Anti-Viruses’ and the like. By the end of the day, the interactive session turned out to be far longer than the lecture session. The children and their parents, Solomon A. N and Mrs. Wakasa A. Solomon wanted to discuss more but time was out and we had to leave with a promise that after the whole workshop, we would make out time to come and discuss extensively with them on any computer issues they have.

The Coordinator of the Orphanage, Mrs. Wakasa Solomon thanked us for our time and all and prayed that God lead us in our ways. One of the children, Blessing David said the closing prayers for us. With all the fun with us, we left to prepare for the next day.

DAY 2: 29th July, 2010 – HEALTH ISSUES

The day’s programme started by 2:45pm with a word of prayer from the Coordinator of the Orphanage, Mrs. Wakasa Solomon. Su’eddie Agema introduced the day’s activities like on the previous day. Nmoka Goodluck started the session with a lecture on Health and Healthy Living. He covered several issues of health and made a point of including some motivational tips on life to the children. Ugbor Ogochukwu took over from him and supported his lecture by strengthening points on STDs and the like. Su’eddie Agema took the final lecture on ‘Cancers and ways of preventing them.’

Evangelist Theophilus Mbashenku who was attending the workshop too, gave an inspirational talk on the need for learning and taking advantage of any studies that was being offered.

An interactive session between the facilitators and the children followed. Like the previous day, it turned out to be fun as the children asked several questions of different facets of health. The facilitators were up to the task and answered each question as best as they could and in as simple grammar that would be understood by the children.

Mrs. Solomon thanked the Foundation once again for all their support and elaborated on some further plans she had for the Orphanage. The Foundation pledged to offer what help it can and solicit more. All the children, their parents, members of the Foundation linked hands together in a chain as Evangelist Mbashenku said the closing prayers. We left with a promise to come back for the final day of the workshop which would be based on Motivational Talks and how the children can get a focus for their life.

DAY 3: 30th July, 2010 – MOTIVATIONAL TALKS

The session started at 3:00pm with prayers offered by Su’eddie Agema. He introduced the theme of the day. Nmoka Goodluck started with a talk on ‘Motivational Charge.’ His talk was filled with anecdotes and personal tales of how he had triumphed from an over petted dull child to a strong determined adult. He insisted that the choice of friends he made among others had influenced who he has become and advised the children to learn this.

Evang. Theophilus Mbashenku continued with a talk on ‘Keys to Success.’ He highlighted eight key steps to attaining success that should be maintained. They include chiefly persistence, discipline and hard work. Fr. Samuel Udogbo took the next turn, basing his discourse on how to make charity foundations work and stand the test of seasons. He based his discussion on core areas like Social Justice; Commitment; Economic Justice and emphasised that one must heal the person’s self before he can reach out to others.

Next, the interactive session started. Unlike the other days, the children were not forthcoming with questions so the facilitators decided to test the knowledge of the children based on all that had been discussed. Questions based on the theme for the day were asked and the children did their best at answering them. From the answers, it was gathered that a few of the children had misunderstood some of the things that had been taught. Prominent among which was the meaning and idea of the concept of ‘right.’ This necessitated another round of instruction as the facilitators took their time to break down all they had taught into very simple terms so that the children would capture the essence of the full discussions.

Su’eddie rounded the theme by summarising the whole day’s workshop by emphasising to the children that success and failure lay in their hands and the choice of which lay in their hands at that very moment citing different stances and illustrations. The entire workshop was also summarised on a theme by theme basis. Mrs. Wakasa Solomon took the next turn and told the story of the Orphanage. She mentioned that it was a calling that had taken time to come to fruition. She said that when the calling for the mission came in 1998, she tried to ignore it but it became too strong. The Orphanage eventually officially dedicated in 2008. She took time to explain a few things about the children especially the teenagers who she said had become delinquents. She however thanked God as they were beginning to show change. Like on previous days, she thanked the Foundation for their time, commitment and help.

Fr. Udogbo led the chain prayers that ended the day’s workshop schedule. We spoke with the children a bit and left.

DAY 4: 31st July, 2010 – PRESENTATION OF GIFTS

The event, which was anchored by Nmoka Goodluck, started with a word of prayer by Bulus Christian. There was a general introduction of all the adults by the Anchor. The children and the orphanage workers introduced themselves.

Su’eddie Agema stood up and briefly summed up the workshop activities and achievements, then informed everyone present of the reason for the current occasion, which was donating to the Orphanage. The Coordinator of the Orphanage, Mrs. Wakasa Solomon took the floor and expressed her deep gratitude to the Foundation and all the Facilitators for the entire workshop and every kind gesture. She said that the days of the workshop up to that moment were some of the happiest in her life. She prayed that God bless the good work and on a final note, asked that her husband be given a chance to say something. Mr. Solomon A. N. spoke about the orphanage and thanked everyone for coming.

At this point, there was room for everybody to speak in as few words as possible. Most of the talks, which were very brief, centred on gratitude to the Orphanage and the Foundation for all the work done and a prayer that things be better for both. There were also messages that buttressed inspiration at the programmes initiated by the Foundation. One of the children took a vote of thanks, followed by Bulus Christian. Su’eddie offered his thanks to everyone who had contributed to the entire workshop and programme especially the children who had agreed to avail themselves and give joy to their facilitators. He admitted that he had learnt a lot from the whole programme and prayed that God bless every single person who had in one way or the other helped in the execution of the various events. He apologised for the low attendance that had been prompted by conflicting commitments of the invitees but promised that the Foundation would organise a grander event at a future date.

Everyone linked their hands together in prayer led by Bulus Christian. After this, there was an official handing over of items by the Foundation to the Orphanage. Pictures were also taken and there was a general departure till the next phase. 🙂

THE MFANYINMA PROJECT

Posted: July 26, 2010 in PROJECTS

SCHEDULE FOR THE MFANYINMA PROJECT

The Mfanyima Orphanage is an orphanage located along the Rice mill Road of Wukari LGA, Taraba State, Nigeria. It is behind Rock Foundation Schools. Noting the need for some assistance for the orphanage, our Foundation has scheduled a four day project, the Mfanyima Project, to cover some educational themes and also offer some ‘relief’ in terms of gifts.

The first three days of the project would comprise a workshop of two to three hour lectures and talks by selected Specialists, particularly Corp Members on themes that would cover Basic Computer Appreciation; Health Issues and Concerns; and Motivational Talks. On the final day of the project, the Foundation would lead donors with gifts for the orphanage. It is the hope of the Foundation to present items like clothing; foodstuff; slippers; writing materials; and toilet rolls among others.

Schedule for Mfanyima Project:

  • Wednesday, 28th July, 2010:          Basic Computer Appreciation (2:00pm – 5:00pm)
  • Thursday, 29th July, 2010:             Health Issues and Concerns (2:00pm – 5:00pm)
  • Friday, 30th July, 2010:                  Motivational Talks (2:00pm – 5:00pm)
  • Saturday, 31st July, 2010:              Presentation of items to the Orphanage (11:30am)

(The Venue for the entire project is the Mfanyima Orphanage, Rice mill Road, Wukari)

We are currently looking at modalities of organising a mass march to the Orphanage from the Wukari Recreation Centre. Convergence time is 10:30 am on 31st July, 2010 while the march would start at 11:00. As soon as the march reaches the orphanage, there would be a few speeches and then, the presentation of items would be made to the orphanage. It is our hope that the march would sensitize people on the need for support of the Orphanage as well as create awareness for it.

The Mfanyima project does not end on the 7th of August, 2010 as the Foundation hopes to give what assistance it can to the Orphanage.

Meanwhile, we are really hoping to get what support we can from YOU, in terms of donations of cash or kind and anyone who you think can help us to make this project a reality. A little would go a long way.

We are partnering with the National Youth Service Corps, Wukari Local Government and trying to get other sponsors and partners. Feel free to contact us on 0806-948-1524 or 0703-261-6183 or send us an e-mail.

No matter your stand, please try to make time to go to the orphanage and see what little, or much, you can do for them.

Thank you,

Ugbor, Ogochukwu

Vice President, Operations

On Tuesday, 13th July, 2010, there were some killings in Wukari town, Wukari LGA, Taraba State. From reports, it was largely religious.

The Su’eddie Agema Foundation frowns at the proponents and adherents of the crises in all forms and really hope that things of this sort would eventually find a way out of our country, Nigeria, permanently. The Foundation strongly condemns the killings. We commiserate with the families of those who lost their lives in the crises.

May God bless us all and bring us to better days, Amen.
